Accessibility Statement
Our accessibility target of WCAG 2.1 Level AA, what we have implemented, known limitations, and how to report a barrier.
Version 1.0.0 — effective August 1, 2026
This is version 1.0.0 of the Accessibility Statement, effective August 1, 2026.
American Barndos wants everyone, including people using assistive technology, to be able to browse plans, unlock previews, and complete a purchase on our site.
Our target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, across americanbarndos.com.
What we have implemented
- Keyboard operation on every filter. Every plan filter, including style, square footage, and bedroom count, can be operated using a keyboard alone, without a mouse.
- Visible focus. Interactive elements show a visible focus indicator when navigated with a keyboard, so you can always see where you are on the page.
- Text labels on status. Status indicators, such as service availability by county or plan license type, are conveyed with text labels, not color alone.
- Alt text. Images of plans, elevations, and site graphics include descriptive alternative text for screen readers.
- Color contrast. Text and interface elements are checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Lazy loaded images with explicit dimensions. Images load as you scroll, and are given explicit width and height attributes so the page layout does not shift unexpectedly as content loads, which helps users with cognitive and vestibular sensitivities as well as screen magnifier users.
Known limitations
- Some PDF plan previews are delivered as images rather than tagged, machine-readable text, which limits screen reader access to their content. We are working to improve tagging on newly produced previews over time.
Ongoing testing
We test the site periodically using automated accessibility scanning tools and manual keyboard and screen reader checks. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time project, and we update the site as we identify and fix issues.
