Barn Raising

Barn Raising is the plan for the family that hosts everything. A 10 foot deep covered porch runs the full 58 foot front of the house, and double doors open into a 20 by 20 living room that flows into the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen has a big island, a 5 by 10 walk in pantry and a laundry room right behind it, with a powder room close by for guests. The bedrooms are split. On one side the primary suite has a 14 by 18 bedroom, a walk in closet and a bath with a freestanding tub, a shower and a double vanity, with Bedroom 2 and its own full bath next door. On the other side, Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a full bath with a double vanity. Outside it is light board and batten with cedar posts and a gable over the front door. Good to know: there is no foyer, there is no garage or shop, and the mechanical room takes a back corner.

The structure is post frame, so the load path is simple and the interior walls are mostly partitions. That matters when you want to move a wall later, and it matters when a framing crew prices the shell. 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths sit on one level.
