Flying Geese

Flying Geese spreads out like its namesake, with a wing of bedrooms on each side of one big open great room, all tied together by a 64 foot covered front porch. Step through the double front doors and the living room, dining room and kitchen open up in front of you as one bright space. The kitchen runs nearly 22 feet with a long island that seats four and holds the cooktop, plus a walk-in pantry, a powder room for guests and a back door right by the laundry. The primary suite sits by itself on one end of the house with a 14 by 18 foot bedroom, a walk-in closet and a private bath with double sinks and a walk-in shower. On the other wing, bedrooms two and three share a Jack and Jill bath with double sinks, with a storage closet in the hall between them. Outside, we show it in dark board and batten with a metal roof, warm wood posts and a center gable that gives the long roofline some character. Good to know: there is no foyer, the front door opens right into the great room, and there is no garage or shop.

The structure is post frame, so the load path is simple and the interior walls are mostly partitions. That matters when you want to move a wall later, and it matters when a framing crew prices the shell. 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths sit on one level.
